Indian fans poke fun at Bangladesh on Twitter during Asia Cup opener

Things turned bitter when India toured Bangladesh in mid 2015 and that bitterness remains and when the sides faced each other in the Asia Cup T20 opener.

The subcontinent teams share an intense cricketing rivalry. Bangladesh, who were long time subjects of bullying by other Asian giants, are now a force to reckon and in home conditions, they are tough to beat. Though India have enjoyed upper hand in contests against their neighbours, the latter have meted out upsets at crucial times. When India defeated Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2015 quarterfinal at MCG, many fans in Bangladesh criticised India’s bullying nature in international cricket. Things turned bitter when India toured Bangladesh in mid 2015. The hosts beat India 2-1 in the ODI series and Bangladesh media went over the moon celebrating this rare achievement. A leading daily in Bangladesh went overboard by publishing half shaved heads of Indian cricketers.

The bitterness remains and when the sides faced each other in the Asia Cup T20 opener,  many Twitterati from India poked fun at the green wicket that Bangladesh presented and also took a dig at the poverty stricken nation. However, Bangladesh were in a commanding position and had India four down for 98 inside 15 overs. They won’t mind the last laugh.
