The last time these two sides met, it was a cracker of a contest in which Mumbai Indian’s (MI) Harbhajan Singh almost won his side the game from a seemingly impossible situation. This time Harbhajan returns to his home ground in Punjab, as MI take on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in a crucial clash at Mohali.
KXIP and MI are two of the best sides in Twenty20 but however they haven’t been able to do justice to their potential this season. While the Kings, who topped all tables last season, are at the bottom this time with only two wins (one being won in the Super Over) from their eight games, Mumbai have done slightly better by managing three wins from eight outings. At present, MI still look to be a better team, coming back from a win against the strong Rajasthan Royals.
KXIP will want their top order to fire, which hasn’t for a long time. Virender Sehwag, Manan Vohra and Murali Vijay have been disappointing till now and will look to make amends in this must win game. They have brought themselves to a situation where they have win all their six games to ensure 16 points – which is considered to be a surety in qualifying to the next round. For MI side, the positives have been the return of form for Lasith Malinga and also Mitchell McClenaghan has contributed well. Ambati Rayudu has also found form and that’s a good sign.
Despite the match being played in Mohali, Mumbai will start as favourites as they have played a better brand of cricket more recently. Follow the pick of the tweets.
