Another match in the ninth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed a successful run-chase. This was the 18th game of the IPL 2016 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Hyderabad. SRH’s bowling once again made an impact especially their strike bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was almost unplayable for KXIP’s batsmen.
After winning the toss, SRH skipper David Warner chose to field first and invited KXIP to bat first. KXIP batsmen failed to get a good start start, but Manan Vohra and Shaun Marsh piled up some runs but lost their wicket soon. After Marsh and Vohra, all rounder Axar Patel garnered some priceless runs and guided his side to a respectable total of 143 runs on board.
While chasing 144, SRH openers Warner and Shikhar Dhawan laid a match winning foundation with their partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket. Warner kept hammering KXIP bowlers whereas Dhawan kept rotating the strike regularly. After the openers’ dismissal, there was some moment of glory for KXIP as SRH lost few wickets in quick succession but Moises Henriques ensured a sound victory for his team with a boundary in the end. SRH won their third game in the tournament and move up to the third position in the points table.
Turning Point: Despite poor start, KXIP could have managed a big total with Shaun Marsh being at crease but after his dismissal there was no hope for KXIP to post a big score which was possibly the turning point of the match.
Brief Scores:
Kings XI Punjab 143 for 6 in 20 overs [Shaun Marsh 40 (34), Axar Patel 36 (17)*; Mustafizur Rahman 4-1-9-2, Moises Henriques 4-0-33-2] beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 146 for 5 in 20 overs [David Warner 59 (31), Shikhar Dhawan 45 (44); Mohit Sharma 3-0-20-1, Sandeep Sharma 4-0-30-1] by 5 wickets.
