After engaging players, coaches and commentators during India’s home season, the popular ‘Tracer Bullet Challenge’ — made famous by Indian commentator Ravi Shastri — now surfaces itself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 as well. English player Kevin Pietersen, who is sitting out of the tournament due to family reasons, has now donned a new hat in IPL 10. The cricketer-turned-commentator for the first time, KP has already created quite an impression on the fans. Pietersen, not to be left behind, took on the ‘Tracer Bullet Challenge’ after the conclusion of the match 9 between Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) and Delhi Daredevils (DD). Pietersen, is likely to leave for England this week, will be back commentating in week four & the final stages of IPL 10.
The first person to take on the Tracer Bullet Challenge was former India opener Sunil Gavaskar. Following suit was India’s World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. Even England all-rounder Sir Ian Botham was also not spared from the wrath of the challenge. Other players/commentators to take the challenge were Sanjay Manjrekar, Aakash Chopra, Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton. Interestingly, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan — who himself is an avid cricket follower — had also famously taken the challenge.

Earlier in the first week, Pietersen made his presence felt in the commentary box by engaging in a friendly banter with his RPS teammate MS Dhoni in their match against Mumbai Indians. Pietersen, who was in the commentary box during the start of the match, was having conversation with Manoj Tiwary. The RPS player was on the mic and standing beside Dhoni at slip. In order to make the conversation interesting, Pietersen asked Tiwary to convey the message that he is a better golfer than Dhoni to the former India captain. Tiwary immediately conveyed it to Dhoni and guess what, the RPS wicketkeeper did what he is famous for. Dhoni stumped KP with his wit by responding to Tiwary with, “He’s (Pietersen) still my first Test wicket,” and a round of laughter in the commentary box ensued.
