Come January 12, and two powerhouses of world cricket Australia and India will lock horns in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the five-match series at Perth. On a rare short tour Down Under, the Indian team will play three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) after the conclusion of this series.
Both India and Australia are fielding a young side in the series due to a combination of form and fitness worries with their first-choice players. Talents like Gurkeerat Singh, Barinder Sran, Rishi Dhawan, Manish Pandey, Joel Paris and Scott Boland will get the opportunity to showcase their skills in the contest.
The series holds importance for India’s limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni, whose form and Midas touch has been on the wane of late. There are speculations that he might retire from all forms after the ICC World T20 in March this year. The series will also give good practice to the teams ahead of the premier tournament.
Australia have already announced their playing XI for the match while India will do so at the toss on match day as always. Here are the squads of both the teams:
India: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (captain & wk), Gurkeerat Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishi Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Barinder Sran, Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav.
Australia’s playing XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steve Smith (captain), George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Wade (wk), James Faulkner, Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood, Joel Paris.
