Mohammed Shami’s ‘commitment to the country’ leaves him richer by INR 2.20 crores

As per details of BCCI’s June 2016 payments available on bcci.tv, Shami was paid Rs 2,23,12,500 for “Loss of pay for IPL season 2015 due to injury.” The amount has been paid to Shami as compensation for missing the IPL 2015 due to a knee injury, which aggravated during India’s World Cup 2015 campaign. He had played in the entire World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and in the preceding Test series in Australia with immense pain and did wonderfully well for the country. He was one of the leading bowlers of the tournament and played a vital role in India’s run to the semi-final. He chose to play in the tournament despite an injury, a decision which cost him heavily as he was unable to play in the 2015 IPL season and almost all of 2015. He underwent a knee surgery which kept him out of the game for the entire year. The board has now compensated the 25-year-old pacer for his dedication to the country’s cause.

This move by the BCCI is a commendable one and is bound to encourage players to give their all for the country. Shami, who is richer by a whopping amount after the move, is currently in West Indies with Team India and will play a crucial role in the upcoming series of four Tests.
