Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s love for football is very familiar. At school level, he started as a goalkeeper before donning the bigger gloves and making history as India’s most successful wicketkeeper. Dhoni also co-owns Indian Super League (ISL) team named Chennaiyin FC with Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan.

Many believe that his supremacy behind the stumps is a reflection of his goal-keeping skills from football. Dhoni retired from Test cricket recently and as India has a Test tour lined up in the next month he has resting in his hometown for over a month now. He decided to make his spare time more useful by playing a full-fledged 90 minute football game with Silli Football Academy at Silli Stadium near Ranchi.

Dhoni was invited there by his old footballer friend Sudesh. Dhoni has been very active and keen on staying fit during this break and to maintain his fitness he’s been also playing badminton and hitting the gym quite often. In the 90 minute game, Dhoni played as a winger and scored a goal too.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Dhoni said, “I was testing my endurance after a month. I have been taking complete rest, spending time with the family for the last one month.”
