MS Dhoni thanks defence forces after receiving Padma Bhushan

On April 2 2018, MS Dhoni was conferred prestigious Padma Bhushan award exactly seven years after he led team India to World Cup title. The ceremony was held in the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi where the President of India Ram Nath Kovind handed the award to Dhoni. He holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel of Indian Army and accepted the award in his army uniform as he marched his way to the stage.
Dhoni took on his Instagram account to thank the defense forces for their service. “An honour to get the Padma Bhushan and receiving it in Uniform increases the excitement ten folds.thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform and their families for the Sacrifices they make so that all of us could enjoy our Constitutional Rights. Jai Hind” he wrote in his Instagram post.
Along with the award receiving photos, Dhoni also shared photos of Sakshi and Ziva Dhoni. He is overall the 11th Indian cricketer to receive the Padma Bhushan award after CK Nayudu (1956), MK Vizianagaram (1958), Vinoo Mankad (1973), Sunil Gavaskar (1980), Bhalindra Singh (1983) Prof DB Deodhar, Lala Amarnath, Kapil Dev (1991), Chandu Borde (2002) and Rahul Dravid (2013). He was also awarded the Padma Shri award in 2009.
