When June 21 was declared as ‘International Yoga Day’ by the United Nations in 2014, it was a matter of huge pride for all Indians. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who himself is a proponent of Yoga, played a pivotal role in getting the ancient Indian practice recognition on a global map. Last year, on June 21, during a grand programme to mark the first ‘International Yoga Day’ which was broadcast live on national television, Modi practiced Yoga with thousands of participants and set a new trend by inspiring millions to take up this healthy practice in their routine. This year, Chandigarh will be hosting the same programme under the aegis of Punjab and Haryana government and Modi will once again be a part of it. Just like Modi, there is another national icon who has been inspiring millions of Indians with his tremendous work ethic and fitness. There are reports that star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli may feature alongside Modi in the Yoga Day programme. A report by India.com stated that Kohli may feature with Modi during the second edition of Yoga Day, which will be themed on ‘Make in India’, on June 21 this year. Over 10,000 people including students, teachers, home-guards and policemen will be a part of the function that aims to take Yoga to greater heights on international level. Kohli and Modi’s presence will without doubt make it happen.
