Dhaka is renowned for its slow moving traffic and it has often caught the ire of cricketers who have toured the city to play. Recently, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took a sarcastic dig at the Dhaka traffic when he commented on Harsha Bhogle’s tweet, ” Last 20 days: Sydney, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Pune, Ranchi, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Hyderabad. Now Dhaka. One place for a few days!”
Ashwin replied, “@bhogleharsha Dhaka traffic will ensure you stay at one signal for more time than your last 20 days suggest.”
The long stay in Dhaka did help India to get accustomed to the conditions and remain unbeaten in the Asia Cup T20 2016. Not only they won all their four round games, they also stamped their authority in the rain-effected final on Sunday as they lifted the Asia Cup for record sixth time. The tournament was finished with a signature six from captain MS Dhoni, who hoisted pacer Al-Amin Hossain over mid-wicket region to bring up a win. It was such a massive hit that Ashwin went on to describe it as ,”Had we [Team India] taken the ball, we could have avoided the Dhaka traffic.”
The traffic was still in Ashwin’s mind and one has to give it to his sense of humour here. It was India’s fielding coach R Sridhar who tweeted this on Monday morning, “Quote by @ashwinravi99 on @msdhoni monster hit last night:”had we taken the ball,we could’ve avoided the Dhaka traffic” #oneliners #dugout”
