Day three of Rio Olympics brought heartbreak for India as one of its finest sportspersons present with the contingent in Brazil, Abhinav Bindra missed out on a medal in shooting. Bindra, who is the first and only individual from India to win Gold at Olympics — in Beijing, 2008 — finished fourth in the men’s 10m Air Rifle finals in the Rio Games on Monday. With Bindra missing out on a medal, India’s hopes of adding one to their medal tally received a severe blow. Millions were following his progress late on Monday night IST as he prepared for the finals. Life many of his fans, Indian cricketers too were keeping a close eye on the outcome of the contest. But once the results were out, there was dejection for Indians.
Nevertheless, cricketers and many others took to Twitter to thank Bindra for a glorious career and for all that he has done to make country proud. Here’s what Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and others had to say:
