The one big plus for team India from the dismal tour of Bangladesh was Shikhar Dhawan’s batting. Not only he was the highest scorer in the one-off Test but he also ended as the highest run-getter in the three match One-Day International (ODI) series that India lost 2-1. Dhawan scored a total of 158 runs at an average of 52.66. While the other batsmen found it tough to handle the mystery called Mustafizur Rahman, Dhawan played him with relatively ease scoring 28 from the 31-balls he faced off him. Mustafizur picked up 13 wickets in the three games but not once did Dhawan fall to him.

In an interview with the BCCI website, the southpaw opened up about the 19-year-old teenage sensation from Bangladesh and heaped praises on him. Dhawan said, “I just tried to play him on merit, give him [Mustafizur Rahman] due respect. It’s not that I didn’t score off him either. One good thing about my game is that my strike-rate is always pretty decent. I don’t waste too many deliveries. I maintained that mindset against him.”

However, Dhawan cautioned the bowler of overusing his cutters and as a fellow sportsman wished the teenager “well for the future.” The stylish batsman added, “He’s just starting out right now and as he plays more and more, teams will have access to his videos and will eventually figure him out. Also, not every wicket will be like this. We will have to see how he does away from Bangladesh on tougher wickets. Sometimes, it also happens that a player has tremendous skills but he doesn’t know how to handle the pressure. It will be seen how he handles pressure going forward. As a fellow cricketer I wish him well for the future.”
