Fred Trueman was a character whose fire was not limited to bowling thunderbolts at the opposing team’s batsmen. If riled up, he did not hesitate in having a go at his own team-mates.

In one match, the suave and classy Raman Subba Row let an edge off Trueman go between his legs at first slip.

At the end of the over, Raman, ever the gentleman, went up to Trueman and apologised: “I should have kept my legs together, Fred.”
