Two Kumars, two heroes — one in the newsreel and other in the film

Kumar later heard that before the start of a movie in a particular theatre, the news reel showed the Kotla Test and his spectacular Test debut. Kumar promptly got a ticket at Wellington Cinema for Dilip Kumar’s Daag, only to see his exploits than Dilip Kumar’s histrionics!

VV Kumar had an excellent Test debut, returning innings figures of five for 64 against Pakistan at Feroz Shah Kotla in 1960-61. He was desperate to see himself bowl, but unfortunately television had not arrived in India at that point of time.
