A loss against India is unacceptable for Pakistan supporters and Saturday’s humiliating defeat in Asia Cup T20 has infuriated pundits across the border too. Pakistan’s former captain Javed Miandad, who has featured in many wins against India, including the one in Sharjah where he hit a six from the last ball, was critical about the side’s performance. In a TV debate in channel Aaj, Miandad blasted the national team and their T20I skipper Shahid Afridi. He said, “How can you expect to win or improve your cricket when a player who stopped being a reliable performer some years ago is still playing in the national team. He is captain.”
Miandad repeatedly mentioned that Afridi’s approach is very wrong and he has never changed his game which he should according to the situation. Miandad, who has coached Pakistan in the past, said that Afridi is a finished cricketer and is just dragging along. Criticising the domestic circuit, he added, “You still have parchi (slip) system in domestic cricket even at district level. It only looks good on surface but in reality it is not producing quality players. Don’t they know what is happening. Don’t they see what is happening to our cricket. I say sack this selection committee and players who don’t perform. Nowadays we have a trend where players play because of the media.”
He went on to say that he did not come across any talent in Pakistan who is good enough to earn an IPL or BBL contract.
