There are fewer sporting rivalries as intense as the one between Australia and New Zealand. There are fewer victories they cherish more than beating each other and a loss is the bitterest pill to digest. Both the countries are extremely passionate about sports and co-incidentally this will be the third World Cup final this year, where they will be facing each other. Dream Team: Cricketers who also dabbled with Rugby
Earlier this year, the two sides squared off in the cricket World Cup finale that Australia clearly dominated with fast bowler Mitchell Johnson playing a leading role in it. Later, in August, Australia and New Zealand again squared off in the Netball World Cup final where once again Australia sneaked it with a 58-55 win. Just over two months after that, the teams now face off in Rugby World Cup final.
The rugby rivalry between the sides is probably the most intense one. It’s clearly the most followed sport in that part of the world. The New Zealand side known as All Blacks are the defending champions and going by history, they have the most dominant in this sport. Both the sides have won the World Cup twice, however head-to-head, All Blacks enjoy 105-42 lead against The Wallabies (the Australian side).
Cricket star Johnson, who is also a rugby buff, through a tweet video, reminded The Wallabies of the country’s previous World Cup wins this year and wished them a “hat-trick”.
Go get the trophy lads! Best wishes and be your best #getyourgoldon pic.twitter.com/GL1KQUIR1c
