Sunday evening was shaping up nicely for an epic finish to seven-week long Indian Premier League (IPL) season 9 as the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were going steadily in pursuit of 209. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli were living upto the expectations of a capacity Bengaluru crowd. Around the same time, a certain Vijay Mallya tweeted in support of RCB and all hell broke loose.
Mallya, whose company owned the RCB till the last season, has been living a fugitive’s life in the United Kingdom (UK). He has been declared a defaulter by a host of Indian PSU banks after he failed to return their money and escaped from the country. He was a permanent fixture in all RCB matches till the last year, but had been cheering for his side from UK this time. Mallya, who also owns an F1 team, tweeted congratulating the F1 drivers and also mentioned about RCB’s chase towards the end: His tweet read:
Absolutely delighted with Checo’s podium and Nico’s 6th in Monaco earning 23 World Championship points. Now RCB batters must score 210

As soon as he tweeted this, the floodgates opened as the social media users bashed and trolled him for leaving the country and not paying the money. Here are some of the selected tweets:
