It is hard to keep former Australian cricketer and a living legend Shane Warne away from the game. He manages to stay in the news with his expert views and some smart predictions. Recently, he was in England during the ongoing Test series between England and Sri Lanka and made a visit to the commentary box during the Day three of the third Test. On this occasion, he took time for a Facebook live session and spoke on a wide range of issues. ALSO READ: Parthiv Patel hails ‘forecasting genius’ Shane Warne for getting his prediction right.
He spoke about England’s side in this series, their combination and praised a few players in particular whom he found to be impressive. He had some good words to say in praise of Chris Woakes before leaving him out from his ideal England playing XI. The spin wizard also hailed the English Rugby team before having a quick word on Australia’s chances in the tri-series that is being played currently in the Caribbean.
Warne also took a few questions, notably the one of the art of leg spin. On being asked how a spinner should control the line and length, he said, “Look, it all comes down to practice, how many hours a bowler puts into practice. The more you do that, more you put yourself under pressure, the more you get better with your line and length. Most importantly, a spinner must focus on spinning the ball.” ALSO READ: Shane Warne’s magical ‘ball of the century’ leaves Mike Gatting aghast.
Warne then takes the question on proposed league system in Test cricket, saying, “I’m not sure if having two divisions really solves the issue for Tests. I want to see all the cricketing heroes from Test playing nations to campaign for Test cricket. I’d also like to see some incentives for playing Tests.” There are a lot more cricketing issues — including the best sledgers he ever encountered — Warne threw light on.
