Germany and Portugal get ready to clash in the FIFA World Cup 2014 in a Group G match on June 16 at Salvador. All the eyes will be on Portugal captain and current FIFA World Player of the Year in Cristiano Ronaldo. There were concerns about his participation in the match due to a knee injury. But he has been declared fit to face the formidable German side.

Three-time FIFA World Cup champions Germany are one of the pre-tournament favourites with an array of attacking talent at their disposal. On an individual level, Ronaldo may be considered better than all of the players in the Germany squad, but as a collective, they are better than Portugal. The sides faced each other in the UEFA Euro 2012 with Germany coming out as the winners in a group tie.

The other two teams in Group G are Ghana and the United States of America (USA). Those two teams will play later in the day. Both Germany and Portugal are seen as the teams that will qualify for the knock-out stages from the group. So, an early win against the other is always helpful. An action-packed match can be expected as both teams have players who have speed and are attack-minded.

The FIFA World Cup 2014 will run for a month as the final is on July 13 in Rio de Janeiro. A total of 32 teams will participate in the tournament. There will be eight groups [Group A to Group H] with four teams each. All the teams will play three matches each in the group stage.

A win is worth three points, while a draw will gain one point and a loss means no points will be added. The top two teams will qualify for the Round of 16s. From there the winners will progress to the quarter-finals, then the semi-finals and the last two victorious teams will play in the final.
