Catch Live Scorecard of India (IND) vs Sri Lanka (SL) ICC World T20 2014 Final here
(India take on Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC World T20 2014 at Dhaka on Sunday. Catch Live Scores and Live Updates of the match here)
That is all from CricketCountry here. This is Abhishek Mukherjee, signing off.
Malinga looks happy, and rightly so. He “can’t explain in words” when asked about the Big Two. He also appreciates the fact that the bowlers have stuck to his blueprint.
This time Mahela and Sanga are cheered this time.
MSD comes up to the podium, back to his composed, smiling self. “Virat was the only one who got going,” he says: “we should have got another 10-15 runs, but cricket is all about those extra 15 runs.” He is also very vocal ahead of Kohli.
ViKo congratulates Mahela and Sanga. He also lauds his own side for remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament before the finals. “I’ve been playing for the last few months, so why not contribute in the tournament?” he says. He, too, spoke about the last four overs where the Lankans had bowled exceptionally well and he had to watch helplessly from the other end.
The Man of the Series is Virat Kohli (adjudicated by Boon, Erasmus, Wasim, and Bishop). He has scored 319 runs in the tournament. Nas says he was ahead by “the country mile”.
Sanga says that the win means a lot to him. He lauds the bowlers and fielders, especially the death bowlers. When asked whether Thisara had pressured him, Sanga smiled: “He always puts the pressure on me.” He says he doesn’t have words to explain his elation. “Everyone’s gotta go, and my time in T20s is up.”
Sanga is the Man of the Match. Warne is there to hand the trophy over to him. The ground is unusually non-responsive.
The officials come up. Boon, Gould, Kettleborough, Tucker, Oxenford.
Here is Hussain with the microphone.
Sangakkara was lucky, but he did not throw it away with false strokes. He had been there till the end, while Thisara played a couple of big hits. The heroes, however, were the five bowlers, none of whom went for more than 30 runs an over. In an ideal world the Man of the Match award would probably have been shared by the quintet.
told you the almighty wanted Mahela and Sangakara to end on a winning note #wt20 #GodKnowsBest

And Yuvraj becomes thes first person to win a world cup for two countries. Whattaplaya!

Mahela thanks the fans back home. Someone from the team lets out a oooooooooooo, and he looks eager to join the youngsters. What a day it has been for the country!
Thisara lets out a primal shriek. The Sri Lankans celebrate, terrific scenes here. MSD hugs Sanga, the Lankan team chairs him off the ground. Boy, does he look happy! Sanath is out there, hugs Mahela…
Bhuvneswar 3-0-18-0 Mohit 2-0-18-1 Ashwin 3.5-0-27-1 Mishra 4-0-32-1 Raina 4-0-24-1 Jadeja 1-0-11-0
Kusal 5(7) Dilshan 18(16) Mahela 24(24) Sanga 52*(35) Lahiru 7(11) Thisara 21*(14)
FOUR! Thisara! Huge straight hoick! It’s all over!
FOUR! Under-age now! Fifty for Sanga!
FOUR! Edged *over* MSD!
SIX! Thisara gives it the full throttle, and the ball soared over wide mid-on. This man *can* hit.
FOUR! That had Sangkkara’s name written all over it! Creamed over extra-cover for four off Mishra!
FOUR! Sanga plays it past fine-leg off the very last moment. That’s class for you.
FOUR! This time it’s Sanga, deftly guided past fine-leg.
SIX! That’s why he has been promoted for! Huge one over long on!
The Lankans are concentrating on singles, keeping things for the end. Would Mathews have been the better option?
MSD is giving Sanga a dose of his own medicine here… appealing early…
Thisara ahead of Mathews, Malinga means business here…
FOUR! Ooooooooh! Flies past first slip!
That was Mahela’s last T20I innings…
FOUR! Mahela at his best, the most delicate of late-cuts off Raina, another four.
SIX! You cannot give Sanga room, he’ll demolish you! Slog-swept over mid-wicket for maximum!
FOUR! Past square-leg!
Meanwhile, Yuvraj has made Vijay Mallya trend today. Go figure.
Drama! Raina took the pace off the ball (yes, even that is possible), Sanga took a wild swipe, and the ball fell just short of a running Mohit.
Mishra on. MSD has given him a slip.
FOUR! Slightly short, and TMD places it to the square-leg fence.
Here’s Ash…
FOUR! Mahela tries a strange-looking turn towards leg; the ball takes the top-edge and — you have to believe me — Bhuvi’s pace carried it to the fence over MSD’s head.
FOUR! That’s almost a freebie! Third man was inside, and Mahela deftly steered it for a four past him.
Hello, hello, what have we here? Still no spin, Bhuvi bowls on, with third man inside the circle…
FOUR! TMD tries to leg-glance, gets an inside edge, and the ball finds its way.
FOUR! TMD pulls, mistimes, but still manages to get a boundary. India bleeding runs here.
FOUR! Mahela uses all his wiles, and guides the ball over MSD. What a shot!
Yuvraj Singh is still a match winner. He single handedly snatched away the match from India.

Another bad investment of Vijay Mallya: Yuvraj Singh — Rajneil Kamath (@rajneilkamath) April 6, 2014

Oh how I wanted Yuvi to get out … agrhhhh #wt20final

.
FOUR! Deviation in line, and TMD leg-glances.
Here’s Mahela for one final time in this version. No guard of honour, though.
Four! And Kusal is off. Eerily reminiscent of Sanath: slight room outside off, and he pulls Bhuvi. Too good a talent.
Kulasekera 4-0-29-1 Mathews 4-0-25-1 Senanayake 4-0-22-0 Malinga 4-0-27-0 Herath 4-0-23-1
Rohit 29(26) Rahane 3(8) Kohli 77(58) Yuvraj 11(21) Dhoni 4*(7)
The Sri Lankan spinners have taken the pace off, never allowing the batsmen to get away. The seamers have stuck to full-tosses wide outside off with a sweeper on the boundary, often risking a wide but never allowing the Indians to reach them. The fielding has been excellent (barring Malinga’s drop of Kohli). Overall, it has been one of the most clinical displays.
An excellent display by the Sri Lankans. They had allowed Kohli only eight balls in the last four overs, which may have cost India about 20-odd runs. Yuvraj looked all at sea, and surprisingly, Dhoni, possibly the most feared finisher in world cricket, could not connect well.
You don’t get to see MSD miss three balls in a row too often…
Kohli took an off-stump guard to counter the line, but they have a sweeper…
This is excellent bowling from Nuwan, wide full-tosses outside off.
ICC tournament final, Kula to MSD. Sounds familiar?
India three wickets down. MSD walks out. Sounds familiar?
Some superb fielding from the Lankans there.
For once, even MSD looks impatient.
MSD is stretching outside the ropes. Warming up. Will he be next?
Clearly not Yuvraj’s day. He is struggling.
Yuvraj to face his bogeyman Senanayake…
Four! Drama! Kula pitches short, Kohli pulls, it takes a top-edge, and the ball flies over Sachithra’s head for four. Why was he not on the rope?
That last shot might actually have gone like a real tracer bullet.
Four! The next ball is dismissed through cover. This may just be the big over.
Six! Kohli goes big! Nuwan is dispatched over mid-wicket so easily!
… and Sanga appeals before the ball reached Kohli…
Four! Malinga splays it outside off-stump, Kohli stretches out for it and guides it past third man. That is how the man bats – makes the most difficult shots look ridiculously easy.
Fifty! Four from five innings! It has not been his most fluent innings, but Kohli has still made it count when it matters.
Here’s Lasith. This may get interesting.
Six! What a shot! Flat, absolutely flat over long-on!
Four! Sachithra attempts a doosra, but Kohli is up to it: steps out and nonchalantly dispatches it over deep extra-cover for four!
Six! Huge! Kohli doesn’t like Mathews’ yell, and responds with a six over mid-wicket!
Matthews lets out a furious appeal. The ball may have gone to first slip if Rohit had missed it.
Four! Rohit drives Mathews to the extra-cover fence to bring up the fifty-partnership!
Malinga senses danger, brings Mathews back…
Six! Kohli steps out and lofts Herath over long-off! What did you do, Malinga?
Dropped! Malinga at mid-wicket (why?)! A Kohli catch! Did Kohli go up and do a Steve Waugh? We will never know…
Four! What a shot! Just stand and deliver, as they say! Malinga was bowling beautifully, but Rohit dismissed him rather arrogantly through mid-on! That took the sheen off that excellent over.
Malinga is bowling cleverly here. He isn’t going for those lethal yorkers with the slippery ball; instead, he is concentrating on deft variations in pace. Excellent thinking.
And Malinga brings himself on.
Rohit survives a run out scare!
FOUR! Rohit plays his trademark hoick, and the ball falls just short of the square-leg boundary!
Here’s Sachithra Senanayake. Wonderful alliterative name.
Looks like Rohit is to play the foil for Kohli. An interesting strategy, given that Rohit is a natural strokeplayer.
Sanga calls for the helmets. He doesn’t like Kohli stepping out.
FOUR! Oooh! Kohli simply steps ahead and flicks Nuwan through mid-wicket! He is in ominous form, the Delhi lad…
Some nice movement in the air from Nuwan there. Malinga summons Angelo.
Rahane flicks, the ball takes the edge and runs past extra-cover, TWO men misfield as the batsmen run for a couple.
Okay, time to keep your Candy Crush and 2048 away. The match is about the begin. Now.
Cheers for the Men in Blue! All 22 of them!
It is the 510th International match played together by Jayawardene and Sangakkara – Most by any pair @AltCricket

The Indian anthem is followed by the Sri Lankan counterpart here.
Okay, folks, goosebumps time: the anthems!
Stay tuned. Let me get my first cup of coffee for the evening. Something tells me I will need quite a few tonight.
Virat Kohli without a total to chase down, India has a slight disadvantage given the new master has no destination to target! #T20WC

Quick stat update: Whenever India has qualified for the knockout stage of any ICC tournament since the 2003 World Cup they have gone on to win the tournament.
Looking forward to seeing India win today. Brings back good memories of the finals at the wanderer in joberg in 2007

So MS has opted to retain Mohit ahead of Shami. He has also kept faith in Rahane. Chandimal, on the other hand, sits out; Prasanna has been dropped to bring in Thisara.
India: MS Dhoni (c & wk), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane.
Sri Lanka: Lasith Malinga (c), Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kusal Perera, Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews, Lahiru Thirimanne, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Rangana Herath, Sachitra Senanayake.
6.40 Malinga has won the toss and has elected to bowl (do note that there has been a single toss here, unlike the 2011 World Cup final). So there you go.
6.36 The Indians are playing football out there. Just before a final. On a damp outfield. Just saying.
India have waltzed into #T20Final without a hiccup, their greatest challenge is not questioning their approach tonight, SL will be ready!

5.59 Our correspondent at Dhaka says it has stopped raining. You can stop Ctrl+Tabbing and focus here now. The action, as they say, is about to begin.
Rain, rain, go away
Come again another day
Mahela-Sanga want to play.
The television channels have the luxury of showing highlights. Trying to replicate the same on a live blog may not be the best of ideas. Just a thought.

While we wait for the much-expected clash to begin, why don’t you read Bharath Seervi’s statistical recap on the previous ICC World T20 finals?
5.05 pm IST: It’s raining in Dhaka and the covers are on, informs our man Nishad Pai Vaidya.
Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the ICC World T20 2014 final between India and Sri Lanka, at the Shere-e Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday. While Sri Lanka defeated West Indies via the Duckworth-Lewis method in the semi-final on Thursday, India, riding on Virat Kohli’s splendid 72 not out thrashed South Africa by six wickets on the next day. This is Abhishek Mukherjee and I will be bringing you the over-by-over updates of the big blash.
It is a huge game from the Sri Lankan perspective as two of their stalwarts — Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara — would be retiring from the format after the T20 World Cup, whereas Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India would be aiming to make it three in three after winning the ICC 2011 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy.
However, Sri Lanka, who are playing in their third final in the World T20 event would be under pressure of not having won a single time. In 2009, they lost to the Asian rivals Pakistan, whereas the previous edition held in
