Another brilliant day of cricket with wickets tumbling and runs being scored quite easily. Australia have 10 wickets in hand, 180 overs to bat and 412 runs to win. Who do you think will win?

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 289/10 in Overs 70.1: End of the day’s play with England being bowled out for 289, means Australia need 412 runs to win the Test. Anderson is the last man to be dismissed, cleaned up by Nathan Lyon, who returns with a four-for.

BATTING: Mark Wood 32 (18)

OUT! James Anderson b Nathan Lyon 1 (4)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 288/9 in Overs 69.1: Wicket No. 2 in the game for Mitchell Johnson as Moeen Ali has fallen while going for a mighty drive. England’s hopes of a 450 plus total take a serious blow with that as well. They lead by 410 runs, and James Anderson has walked out to bat.

BATTING: Mark Wood 32 (16)

OUT! Moeen Ali c Brad Haddin b Mitchell Johnson 15 (41)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 287/6 in Overs 68: Wood has started to open up as he slams a massive six off Lyon, and follows it up with a reverse sweep for four. Johnson is then hit for another four for straying down the led side, followed by another good hit towards midwicket for three runs. Crucial runs these for England, their lead has surged past 400. Wood has picked up the scoring rate quite effectively.

BATTING: Moeen Ali 14 (34), Mark Wood 32 (16)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 266/6 in Overs 65: England are a little cautious at the moment. They have lost wickets in a heap and the lead is still not past 400-run mark. Ideally they would have liked anything around 450-500. Mark Wood and Moeen Ali are holding the fort for the moment. England lead by 388 runs.

BATTING: Moeen Ali 12 (21), Mark Wood 14 (11)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 236/6 in Overs 61: Wickets tumbling for England! And this time it is the key wicket of Ben Stokes, and soon Stuart Broad is caught by Josh Hazlewood at long off. While Stokes was cleaned up by Starc for 42, Broad goes for a big hit and Hazlewood takes a fine diving catch in the deep to remove the England tailender! Can Australia bowl out England today? The lead is of 367.

BATTING: Moeen Ali 5 (8), Mark Wood 0 (0)

OUT! Ben Stokes b Mitchell Starc 42 (59)

OUT! Stuart Broad c Josh Hazlewood b Nathan Lyon 4 (7)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 236/6 in Overs 58.2: Wicket! Nathan Lyon has dealt a blow to England as Jos Buttler has been caught by Brad Haddin while he tried to sweep. The ball hit the gloves and Haddin took an easy catch.

BATTING: Ben Stokes 42 (58),

OUT! Jos Buttler c Brad Haddin b Nathan Lyon 7 (19)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 236/5 in Overs 58: Ben Stokes is proving his class with strokes all around the park. Two boundaries off Nathan Lyon on the leg side were belted mercilessly as Stokes nears yet another half-century. England’s lead has gone past 350-run mark, and Australia have started to look a little tired.

BATTING: Ben Stokes 42 (58), Jos Buttler 7 (17)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 216/5 in Overs 54: Jos Buttler has just taken his first runs. But it is the key wicket of Ben Stokes that Australia is eyeing. The lead is of 338 runs, and it could reach somewhere close to 400 by the end of the day. Australia must keep striking.

BATTING: Ben Stokes 26 (43), Jos Buttler 3 (8)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 207/5 in Overs 51.1: WICKET! What a delivery by Josh Hazlewood as he hits the top of Joe Root’s off-stump. The ball pitched in the line of the off-stump, nipped back in a little and beat Root’s defence. Hazlewood’s delighted!

BATTING: Ben Stokes 21 (34)

OUT! Joe Root b Josh Hazlewood 60 (89)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 197/4 in Overs 49: Shane Watson is into the attack now. The Australians do not look like taking a wicket, once again in this Test as they are not creating enough opportunities. Lyon has bowled really well but England have gained by not attacking him, instead, they have only looked for singles and doubles. Stokes looks well settled, and Root is en route another century. England’s lead is of 319 runs.

BATTING: Joe Root 59 (84), Ben Stokes 12 (26)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 185/4 in Overs 44: Starc is creating lot of trouble for Ben Stokes and even Johnson is turning up the heat. On one occasion Starc hit Stokes on the pads and did not appeal, the replays showed it was out. Meanwhile, Root punches one off Johnson to get a four and complete his half-century, the stroke also takes England’s lead past the 300-run mark.

BATTING: Joe Root 54 (71), Ben Stokes 5 (9)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 170/4 in Overs 40: There it is! Johnson finally gets a reason to smile as he knocks off Bell’s off stump. Fist wicket in the match for Mitch and this should increase his confidence. Ben Stokes walks out. England ahead by 292.

BATTING: Joe Root 44 (56)

OUT! Ian Bell b Mitchell Johnson 60 (89)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 158/3 in Overs 38: Starc has got some swing and he is sharing the ball with Johnson. Both the bowlers are bending their backs, let’s see how they bowl in this spell. Johnson needs some inspiration, a wicket or two can fire him up. Root has been relatively quiet, and soon he will be completing his half-century.

BATTING: Joe Root 39 (49), Ian Bell 53 (84)

We are back for the final session. Who will it belong to? Australia will need at least 3-4 wickets to make a comeback in this game. England, will play safe and will look to add another 100 runs to the total. Starc to start the proceedings.

A brilliant session for England as they add 128 runs and lose only two wickets. Ian Bell has struck a crucial half-century, and his unbeaten 76-run stand for the fourth wicket has resulted in England’s lead surging to 271 runs. Australia have a huge task in their hands, England will not declare before anything around 450, I feel. Stay tuned, I will be back in 20 minutes for the final session.

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 149/3 in Overs 36: Finally, Ian Bell has something to cheer about as he has completed 43rd half-century in Test cricket. He has been through a very rough patch, but Bell has provided England they stability they would have liked from their No. 4 batsman. About 10 minutes left for the tea break, England are slowly but steadily increasing their grip on this opening Test. Johnson has replaced Hazlewood from the Cathedral Road End. It’s time for tea, with England leading by 271 runs.

BATTING: Joe Root 31 (41), Ian Bell 53 (80)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 129/3 in Overs 31: Root and Bell have brought up their half-century stand for the fourth wicket. There is a lot of time left for the tea break, and England have already added more than 100 runs in this session. Shane Watson has replaced Josh Hazlewood, and for Australia’s frustration two times the ball has gone past the slip cordon after taking the edge. England lead by 251 runs now.

BATTING: Joe Root 25 (29), Ian Bell 39 (62)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 101/3 in Overs 27: Root and Bell have done well to steady England. Root has been cautious so far in this innings, has scored only two boundaries. But he has been beaten quite often outside off as well. England are past 100-run mark in their second innings, which means their lead is of 223. The current partnership is of 28 runs.

BATTING: Joe Root 8 (18), Ian Bell 33 (49)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 95/3 in Overs 23: Joe Root is off the mark with a flick on the leg side for FOUR off Johnson. England would like to have a partnership in the middle so that their position consolidates, because hereon they have good strokemakers, and not those who would bat for sessions all together. Root has been beaten quite a few time by Johnson’s pace. England lead by 217 runs.

BATTING: Joe Root 4 (9), Ian Bell 31 (34)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 73/3 in Overs 20: WICKET! Lyon gets one turn away from Lyth and there is an outside edge. Michael Clarke, standing in the first slip dives to his left and takes a one-handed catch to end the opener’s stay! What a catch from the Aussie captain who was airborne. England lead by 195 runs, have seven wickets in hand.

BATTING: Joe Root 0 (2), Ian Bell 17 (20)

OUT! Adam Lyth c Michael Clarke b Nathan Lyon 37 (62)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 71/2 in Overs 17: Nathan Lyon was welcomes by Lyth with a massive six and Bell was cautious against Mitchell Johnson, as Australia have made double change in their bowling attack. Australia need to keep picking wickets or else England will be soon running away with this match.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 36 (49), Ian Bell 17 (20)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 63/2 in Overs 15: Bell has hit a couple of fours through the off and Lyth too has looked to score runs, as England are now on charge. Starc and Hazlewood are bending their backs but as you all know, this wicket has nothing for the fast bowlers. England lead by 185 runs.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 28 (43), Ian Bell 17 (14)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 35/2 in Overs 13: Ian ‘Binary’ Bell  has begun with three boundaries and he has managed to register a  double-digit score in this innings. First four came off Hazlewood, between the gully and third slip, while the next two were through cover off Starc. England’s lead has surged past 150.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 8 (34), Ian Bell 13 (11)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 22/2 in Overs 10: The ball was hitting the wickets, pitching in line of the stumps but since umpire Kumar Dharmasena gave it not out, the decision remained at that. Bad luck for Australia and Hazlewood, Lyth was a goner. Lyth defends yet another inswinging ball from Hazlewood, and the bowler has some words on offer for the batsman. Another inswinging delivery, inside edge misses the wickets. Single taken. Well bowled, Hazlewood. Final ball of the over and what a delivery! Ballance had one ball to survive but he gets a nasty bouncer, the ball kisses the gloves and rests in Brad Haddin’s gloves! The No. 3 is out for a duck!!!

BATTING: Adam Lyth 8 (27),

OUT! Gary Ballance c Brad Haddin b Josh Hazlewood 0 (7)

Play has resumed and Australia have taken a review for leg before against Adam Lyth on the first ball of the session.

England remain in firm control with the 143-run lead, but if they lose early wickets in the second session then Australia will have the upperhand. Both Lyth and Ballance have looked a little feeble in the middle, and with Australian bowlers getting some swing, it will be a real challenge for them. Stay tuned, see you in about 40 minutes. And yes, do catch up with Shiamak Unwalla’s session report here: England ahead of Australia by 143 runs at lunch on Day 3 of 1st Ashes 2015 Test at Cardiff

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 21/1 in Overs 9: Gary Ballance was beaten a couple of times as Starc seems to be getting some good shape and swing in the middle. However, the momentum will be disturbed as it is time for lunch, with England ahead by 143 runs.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 7 (22), Gary Ballance 0 (6)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 17/1 in Overs 7: Adam Lyth has not looked comfortable at the crease so far in this Test. The left-hander plays a lofted stroke on the off side, and Chris Rogers, standing at extra cover looses the ball in the sun. It could have been a catch, had the fielder moved early in position. Johnson remains wicketless. Starc has replaced Johnson in the bowling attack from the other end, and he has dealt a big blow to England. Cook caught at backward point! Cook plays on the up on a ball way outside off, and he is caught for 12.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 3 (16),

OUT! Alastair Cook c Nathan Lyon b Mitchell Starc 12 (26)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 14/0 in Overs 4: Aussie bowlers Johnson and Hazlewood are not attacking the wickets, as England are going on steadily at the moment. England’s overall lead is of 136 runs.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 2 (7), Alastair Cook 12 (17)

Live Cricket Score ENGLAND 5/0 in Overs 2: An ordinary start with the new ball for Mitchell Johnson as England add four runs from his first over. Josh Hazlewood bowls the second over. He comes on from over the wicket and keeps the ball close to the off-stump. Cook happily sees off all of them. Single to end the over.

BATTING: Adam Lyth 1 (1), Alastair Cook 4 (11)

The England openers have walked out to bat. Australia will need to bowl really well, perhaps they can learn from their opponents to bowl fuller and attack the stumps more, especially to Alastair Cook. Mitchell Johnson to open the bowling attack.

A perfect morning for England as they skittle out Australia for 308, take a crucial 122-run lead. England will start their second innings in about 10 minutes and it will be a challenge for Australia to take at least 3-4 very early wickets to force their way back into the match.

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 308/10 in Overs 84.5: WICKET! Mitchell Starc is caught by Joe Root in the slip cordon off James Anderson as England take a huge lead of 122 runs. Australia have ceased all advantage to England, who will know they have to pile up another 300 runs to outbat Australia from this match.

BATTING: Josh Hazlewood 2 (4)

OUT! Mitchell Starc c Joe Root b James Anderson 0 (6)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 306/9 in Overs 83.2:  A forgettable match for Mitchell Johnson continues as he chips an easy catch to short midwicket off Stuart Broad. Australia have collapsed and England are all over their opponents now. England ahead by 124 runs.

BATTING: Mitchell Starc 0 (1)

OUT! Mitchell Johnson c Gary Ballance b Stuart Broad 14 (19)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 304/8 in Overs 82.5: Crucial wicket for England as Anderson gets one moving away from Haddin, and an outside edge carries safely into the hands of Jos Buttler. Another start ending in a disappointment for Australia. They trail by 126 runs, an excellent chance for England to take a 100-run lead! It is up to Mitchell Starc, Johnson and Josh Hazlewood to save some embarrassment for Australia!

BATTING: Mitchell Johnson 12 (17)

OUT! Brad Haddin c Jos Buttler b James Anderson 22 (38)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 299/7 in Overs 82: England have taken the new ball and their pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad are bowling in tandem. Brad Haddin has started to open up. The deficit is of 131 runs. These two can provide the stability Australia is needing at the moment.

BATTING: Brad Haddin 18 (36), Mitchell Johnson 11 (14)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 283/7 in Overs 78: Brad Haddin has had a poor run in Tests of late, he needs a big score if Australia have to do well in this Ashes. Some respite for him as he gets three boundaries of Stokes — one off an inside edge, another through cover and the third one with a thick outside edge. Australia now trail by less than 150 runs.

BATTING: Brad Haddin 12 (20), Mitchell Johnson 6 (6)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 271/7 in Overs 77: Finally, Mitchell Johnson breaks the shackles for Australia with a single on the leg side and a glorious cover drive for a FOUR. Australia get some runs, but they have a mountain to climb. England still ahead by 159 runs.

BATTING: Brad Haddin 0 (14), Mitchell Johnson 6 (6)

One run scored and two wickets lost in six overs so far today.

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 265/7 in Overs 75: No run scored by Australia since the dismissal of Shane Watson. England are well on top with the big wicket early on. Both Lyon and Haddin were cautious after that wicket because Australia needed stability. But they have been rocked again! Lyon has fallen, out leg before off Wood. A fuller ball into the wickets, Lyon tries to work it around the leg side but misses to connect completely. Plumb! This is a poor start for Australia on this crucial day. England are in command!

BATTING: Brad Haddin 0 (8)

OUT! Nathan Lyon lbw Mark Wood 6 (26)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 265/6 in Overs 71.4: And there it is! Shane Watson is out leg-before as Stuart Broad has done the trick for England. The front foot comes forward as always, and the ball hits a little above the knee roll. The umpire gives it out. Watson reviews, and the DRS reviews shows the ball was just hitting the top of the leg stump. BIG WICKET for England, Australia on backfoot! Poor from Watson, how many times will he be dismissed in the same manner?

BATTING:  Nathan Lyon 6 (14)

OUT! Shane Watson lbw Stuart Broad 30 (57)

Live Cricket Score AUSTRALIA 265/5 in Overs 71: The proceedings have begun for the third day with Mark Wood starting the attack for England. One run was taken. Crucial for Australia to be careful early on. They trail by 165 runs now.

BATTING: Shane Watson 30 (53), Nathan Lyon 6 (14)

We are about five minutes away from the start of the third day. England will start with an upperhand, as they are ahead by 166 runs. It will be crucial for Australia to not loose wickets. The new ball is available to England after 10 overs.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the third day’s play in the ongoing first Ashes 2015 Test between England and Australia, at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. This is Devarchit Varma, and I will be bringing you the live cricket scores and updates.

It was a tough day on the field for both the teams even though wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals. England, resuming their first innings at 343 for 7, did really well to be bowled out for 430, adding 87 runs with the last three wickets. On the other hand, Australia reached 264 for 5, trailing by another 166 runs. READ: England limit Australia to 264/5 on Day Two of 1st Ashes Test at Cardiff

It can be said that the Australian batsmen barring Chris Rogers squandered the starts they got. Michael Clarke and Steven Smith fell on ordinary deliveries by Moeen Ali on 38 and 33 respectively, while Adam Voges scored 31 off 75 balls. David Warner looked cautious throughout his stay at the crease, but did not score heavily as he was expected to on this flat deck. READ: The Moeen Ali conundrum

Australia will have to get their act together as England will come really hard on them on Day Three morning. England have a huge lead by 166 runs and with Shane Watson and Nathan Lyon at the crease, the hosts would be licking their lips to make early breakthroughs and try and take a huge first-innings lead.

Chris Rogers slammed his seventh consecutive half-century in Test cricket and one wonders if the end of The Ashes 2015 is the right time for him to walk away. He fell agonisingly short by five runs to score a century, but turned out to be Australia’s hero with the bat on the second day.
