Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the third day of the second Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley. This is Nikhil Popat, and I will be bringing to you all the live updates from the day’s play.

There was some overnight rain which threatened to delay proceedings but it has cleared up now and we will start on time.

England were right on top after the 177-run opening stand between Alastair Cook and Adam Lyth. Cook went past Graham Gooch’s record to become England’s highest run-getter in Tests. Lyth scored his maiden Test ton after Cook got out for 75. New Zealand though came back roaring in the game taking wickets with the second new ball and England lost five wickets for just 70 runs. Read New Zealand reduce England to 253/5 at Stumps after Adam Lyth ton on Day 2 of 2nd Test at Headingley

Trent Boult led the comeback for the Kiwis and with the trial still 97 runs, they will know if they can get a few wickets early on, they might as well be on top of the game, which would be something given the opening stand for England had almost shut the doors on them. Brendon McCullum and his men will want to make most of the cloudy conditions which are expected to remain throughout the third day of the Test. Read: Trent Boult’s day out against England at Headingley
