Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the third day of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2015-16 Group A fixture between Odisha and Assam at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Saturday. Assam, who have been the surprise package of the tournament so far after drawing against defending champions Karnataka and thrashing Rajasthan by an innings, are currently on top with a 141-run lead. The visitors reached a score of 137 for 8 at the end of Day 2 in what has turned out to be a seesaw-battle so far. Assam were dismissed for a mere 92, courtesy Basant Mohanty’s 5 for 24. They however, fought back with the ball brilliantly on the second day in order to bowl Odisha out for 88 and gain a four-run lead! Read all Ranji Trophy 2015-16 team previews here
Krishna Das was the wrecker-in-chief of the hosts, recording fabulous figures of 16-9-21-7. Only two batsmen — Nataraj Behera (23) and Anurag Sarangi (27) — managed to cross over to double figures. The Odisha bowlers seemed to have got the better of the Assam batsmen for the second time in the Test, having reduced them to 109 for 8 before Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad’s unbeaten 42 has kept them alive so far. Whatever the target they set from this point onwards, Assam will be the favourites to complete a victory.
