Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the 1st warm-up fixture of England‘s tour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in which they are up against the Pakistan ‘A’ team in a two-day affair at the Sharjah Cricket Ground in Sharjah on Monday. Members of the travelling England squad will look to get themselves acclimatised to the conditions as well as the heat ahead of the highly-anticipated three-Test series against the full-strength Pakistan side led by the veteran Misbah-ul-Haq, who has given hints of a possible retirement from the sport after the series should everything go as planned. For the tourists, the management’s eyes will be trained at the performances of Moeen Ali as well as Alex Hales for both the warm-up fixtures in order to finalise the Test opening partner for skipper Alastair Cook. He has just scored his first run for eight overs with a paddle sweep, he has managed just eight runs from 38 deliveries with no boundaries scored yet.

This time he was dropped by the first slip when he was on just six runs as the ball went between the fielder and the wicketkeeper, Adnan Akmal.

Live cricket score England XI 27/0 | Overs 9 | Batting: Moeen Ali 10(20), Alastair Cook 16(35) | Both the English openers have made a steady start. Both of them are looking to take their time and get into the groove before looking to take the attack to the Pakistan A bowlers.

Among the other players who will look to get back into shape in the longer format will be James Taylor and Samit Patel, both of whom haven’t played a Test for the last three years or so. Taylor, who was in fantastic form with the bat during the recent five-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia towards the end of the summer, will now look to seal his spot in the Test side with the selection.
Pakistan A will be led by pacer Junaid Khan, who has not been selected for the Tests and will aim to impress the selectors in the warm-ups in order to get a place in the limited-overs squads. While most of the ‘A’ squad comprises of youngsters who are on the fringes of selection for the most part, Fawad Alam will look to make the most of the practice matches in order to prepare himself mentally for the Test series, for which he was selected and now has to repay the selectors’ faith.
