Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka, once one of the strongest contenders of any major ICC event, are currently finding it hard to get their form back. While the Pakistan team has a very talented bowling attack led by Mohammed Aamer, they are yet to find the right batting line-up who can make them win important matches. On the other hand, the retirement of Sri Lanka’s legendary cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene seems to have left quite a long-term impact on the team as they still have that match winner’s spot vacant in the team. Pakistan’s ICC World T20 journey started after many ifs and buts as their participation in the event remained uncertain for a long time. The political instability of the nation affected the nations cricket hugely while the form if the members of the squad is still a matter of concern. Shahid Afridi is yet to make any important contribution and his captaincy has also been criticised during the recently concluded Asia Cup. Few of the team’s positives are the forms of Mohammad Aamer and Umar Akmal. Aamer did brilliantly in Asua Cup 2016 while Akmal remained quite successful in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are also facing a lot of problems, starting from their Twenty20 International skipper Lasith Malinga’s injury. The team got a new captain just prior to the tournament as Angelo Mathews has been handed responsibilities. The team has many new faces and is lacking experience as the members of the squad need time to understand their comfort zone and play well in the international circuit before entering such a high-voltage tournament.
