Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of Day One of the Round 8 Group B match of Ranji Trophy 2015-16 between Tamil Nadu and Punjab at Dindigul. Punjab desperately need an outright win and get 6 points in order to progress to the next round. Even if they get 3 points with a first innings lead they can still qualify provided Uttar Pradesh does not beat Baroda with 6 points or Madhya Pradesh does not beat Andhra with a superior run rate. On the other hand, even an outright win will not guaruntee Tamil Nadu of a spot in the final eight. COMPLETE COVERAGE: Ranji Trophy 2015-16

Even if Tamil Nadu get 6 points with an outright win they will need to look at the other results before qualifying. For instance, even with 6 points they need Uttar Pradesh to not win outight as well as Gujarat not getting a single point. Thereby, if Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are all tied on 24 points then it will go down to quotient and run rate. On the other hand, if Tamil Nadu manage 3 points then they have to hope Uttar Pradesh do not get any more than 1 point, while also having to maintain a lead over Uttar Pradesh and Punjab in terms of quotient.
