Virat Kohli-led Bangalore franchise have been perennial chokers in the Indian T20 league. However, this time, they are primed to deliver in the 12th edition according to former South Africa captain AB de Villiers, who is one of the batting mainstays of the team along with Kohli.

Bangalore were dismal last season after having finished at the sixth spot losing eight of their 14 matches. Kohli too went on to state that his side don’t deserve to win. “We need to be hard on ourselves and be braver with the ball and in the field. We need to correct those things going forward. We didn’t deserve to win,” he had said. (ALSO READ: It’s a big possibility: Kohli on skipping matches for Bangalore)

This time, Bangalore have been injected with fresh coaching staff. Former India’s 2011 World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten is at the helm of affairs with Ashish Nehra as the bowling coach. De Villiers believes Kirsten brings vast experience and his presence will make a difference.

“Gary Kirsten has arrived as head coach, bringing vast experience and knowledge to the squad. He is a proven leader of men, and his attention to detail in all aspects of the game is remarkable. I have worked with him before, and it’s wonderful to see him so determined and motivated to guide this squad,” De Villiers wrote in his column of the Times of India on Saturday. “We have balance, not only in cricketing terms but also in experience; this has not always been the case in past RCB squads, but the balance between bat and ball feels right, the balance between experience and youth feels right.”

Kohli and Co. also added more firepower to the batting arsenal with the signing of Caribbean batsman Shimron Hetmyer, who was impressive during West Indies’ tour of India. “Shimron can also bring something new to the team; he has consistently finished matches for the West Indies in recent seasons, and is a genuine force in T20 cricket. The left-hander from Guyana has been looking great in the nets,” ABD explained.

Heinrich Klaasen will prove a crucial middle-order batsman with excellent ‘big match temperament’ who plays the spinners well; I know him from Titans in Pretoria, and he can prove a fantastic asset.

“Our shared squad resolve to be the most professional squad, on and off the field; our captain Virat Kohli has stressed the importance of doing things right at all times, and so giving ourselves the best chance of performing to our potential.” (WATCH: Kohli’s Bangalore vs Dhoni’s Chennai in T20 league opener)
