South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers, who represents Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been nominated in three categories at the South African Cricket Awards.
The One-Day International and Twenty20 skipper of the Proteas side has been nominated for One-Day International Cricketer of the Year, Test Cricketer of the Year and for the prestigious SA Cricketer of the Year.
De Villiers has been in supreme form last season, which was evident in IPL 2012 as he scored 319 runs from 16 matches.
The other South African cricketers nominated for various awards are Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Vernon Philander and Makhaya Ntini.
Delhi Daredevils pacer Morne Morkel, who is the present holder of the Purple Cup in IPL, has been nominated for the T20 Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year and for the SA Cricketer of the Year awards.
Faf du Plessis, who will lead South Africa ‘A’ on tours of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, has been nominated for the One-Day Cup Cricketer of the Year, T20 Cricketer of the Year and the SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year.
Du Plessis has been a star performer for defending champions Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2012.
Highveld Lions’ batsman Temba Bavuma and teammate Alviro Peterson has been nominated along with du Plessis for SuperSport Series Cricketer of the Year.
Mumbai Indians opener Richard Levi, who smashed a record-breaking 117 against New Zealand in Hamilton, has been nominated for the International T20 Cricketer of Year as well as the KFC “So Good” Award
The 2012 South African Cricket Awards categories feature an exciting batch of nominees, with winners to be announced at the Gala Dinner on Wednesday, June 6, at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
