Ajinkya Rahane and Saurabh Tiwary’s powerful 105-runs stand propelled Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) to put up 191 for 6 on the scoreboard against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Match 35 of IPL 2016 at Bengaluru. Rahane and Tiwary secured half-centuries, one after the other to lead RPS to mammoth total against RCB. Tiwary secured his 2nd half-century and was dismissed for 52 off 39 while Rahane was dismissed in the 19th over for 74 off 48. Skipper MS Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin and Thisara Perera’s fiery shots at the death overs did help to boost the scorecard. On the hindsight, RCB were found slopping on the field with misfields, dropped catches at crucial moments. But the bowling department did their part with Shane Watson scalping 3 for 24 at the end of 4 overs, while newbie Chris Jordan and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picking one apiece. RPS opening pair Usman Khawaja and Rahane were off the mark put to bat first in the first over with a boundary from Rahane towards cover following suit was Khawaja with a boundary towards the edge. Khawaja looked in command of the game carrying the momentum in the second over of Pervez Rasool that turned to be a big over for RPS with 13 runs from it including a six and four. Jordan made his first appearance in IPL bowling the third over and just when Khawaja, Rahane’s partnership was building up a misunderstanding between the two batsmen lead to a silly run out with Khawaja making his way out for 16 from 6 with perfect throw from Shane Watson and Binny making no rooms for error in 2.2 overs.

Tiwary entered at No.3 complimenting his partner Rahane very well taking turns to get the scoreboard ticking. Rahane and Tiwary sailed through with their partnership and acquired 22-runs stand in just 5 overs. Just then Varun Aaron was called into attack, with RCB slopping with their fielding with not one but three dropped catches including Rahane as well as Tiwary. The latter was lucky twice in the 6th over with Stuart Binny dropping the catch of Tiwary in 5.1 overs which was followed by yet another dropped catch this time by Sachin Baby in the next ball. Rahane was also lucky when he was playing at 27, once again Aaron was astonished to miss his chance to get a big wicket with Watson missing the chance to grab the opportunity.

Luck was shining on Tiwary as this time the RCB keeper KL Rahul missed stumping in 8.1 overs while he was playing at 25. This was the moment Rahane and Tiwary picked up the pace putting up an easy partnership of 50-runs by 8.2 overs. RPS were 100-runs up by the 12th over with the batsmen in the top order playing a controlled innings. Rahane and Tiwary were racing for their half-centuries, but it was Tiwary to reach the finish line first securing his 2nd fifty in this edition followed by Rahane’s fifty within the 13th over.

Earlier, RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. They made few changes to their side with Chris Gayle and Tabraiz Shamsi kept out for this game against RPS, including Pervez Rasool, Chris Jordan playing his first IPL game and Travis Head coming back for his second game.  As for RPS they got back RP Singh in replacement for Murugan Ashwin who is injured injured and Adam Zampa finally getting his first IPL game.
