Akshar Patel becomes India‘s highest ranked bowler in One-Day International (ODI) format as India finish a successful series against visitors New Zealand. Akshar, who took 4 wickets in the series, took a giant stride in the ODI bowlers rankings as he is now placed at No. 9, bettering five places from his previous rank of 14. Not only Akshar but all the Indian bowlers rose in rankings. Amit Mishra skipped 25 places to be placed at No. 12 stop which he shares with South Africa’s Dale Steyn. Earlier, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who held the highest rank among the Indian bowlers in the format, placed at No. 13 while he is now placed at No. 16. Pacers Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah have also risen in the ranking. Umesh’s 8 wickets got him placed at No. 35 in the ranking, seven places ahead of his earlier. Bumrah is currently at the 57th position for his 6 wickets which is also his career-best position.
Despite team’s loss, pacer Trent Boult retained his top spot in the rankings, having scalped 6 wickets in the series. Tim Southee also got a rise in his ranking as he is now placed at No. 3. However, Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane have gone down in raking along with Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor from the opponent side.
Virat Kohli, with his 358 runs in the series, have maintained his spot at No. 2 in the list.
