Chasing 135 for a win, the Dynamites did not take any risks early on in their innings and as a result got off to a slow start. However, they lost their opener Mehedi Maruf, trapped leg-before by Mohammad Nabi for 9, though replays suggested Maruf had got some bat on that one. Medium-pacer Subashis Roy took some beating off Sangakkara, when the great man smashed three back-to-back boundaries off the fourth over. The first two deliveries of the next over from Shoaib Malik were dispatched for four and six by Nasir Hossain. At this stage Dhaka Dynamites had the momentum going their way, but Imran Khan Jr came into the attack and struck immediately, having Hossain caught-behind for 13. The Dynamites ended the Powerplay overs on 37 for 2.
Sangakkara was going well, but need someone to hang in there with him. Mosaddek Hossain tried his best but he fell for 9. But the turning point of the match was when Sangakkara was run out after a direct hit from the deep. Sangakkara failed to make his ground at the non-striker’s end after Alauddin had called him for a second run. He fell for a run-a-ball 35. Russell walked out. With Bravo and captain Shakib Al Hasan still to follow, there was still hope.
Russell and Babu ensured that they did not leave it to anyone else and finished off the match without any fuss.
Earlier, Dhaka Dynamites had won the toss and elected to bowl first. They restricted Chittagong Vikings to 134 for 6. Captain Tamim Iqbal scored a brilliant 74, and added 86 for the fourth wicket with Malik (33 off 25) after their side were reduced to 33 for 3 in the eighth over. For Dhaka Dynamites, Bravo was outstanding, finishing with 3 for 27 from his 4 overs, Ronsford Beaton chipped in with a 2 for 30, while none of Abu Jayed, Shakib and Russell went for over 30 in their stipulated 4 overs.
Brief scores:
Chittagong Vikings 134 for 6 in 20 overs (Tamim Iqbal 74, Shoaib Malik 33; Ronsford Beaton 2 for 30, Dwayne Bravo 3 for 27) lost to Dhaka Dynamites 135 for 4 in 18.2 overs (Kumar Sangakkara 35, Alauddin Babu 33*, Andre Russell 31*; Mohammad Nabi 1 for 2, Shoaib Malik 1 for 23) by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare.
Man of the match: Dwayne Bravo
