Former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan congratulated Steve Smith for his impressive ODI career, calling him an incredible leader. As Pat Cummins was absent, Smith was the stand-in captain for Australia in the Champions Trophy, and played his last ODI against India in Dubai on Tuesday. He is still going to play Test and T20Is for Australia.

Smith had played 170 ODIs for Australia, and scored 5800 runs averaging at 43/28, accompanied by 12 centuries and 35 half-centuries. He had also contributed with the ball, claiming 28 wickets.
“It has been a great ride and I have loved every minute of it,” Smith said in a statement from Cricket Australia on Wednesday.
“There have been so many amazing times and wonderful memories. Winning two World Cups was a great highlight along with the many fantastic team-mates who shared the journey,” he said.

Coming to the Champions Trophy, India had made it to the final of the tournament after victory over Australia. Now New Zealand has also secured their place in the tournament-winning clash. The title decider will be held on March 9 in Dubai.
