Arun Lal positive of speedy recovery from cancer

Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Arun Lal is battling jaw cancer at a Kolkata hospital. Arun said that he is recovering from the disease after having undergone surgery. The 60-year-old former opening batsman said that the malady he has been suffering from is a rare and dangerous form of cancer. However, he added that he was fortunate that the symptoms of the condition were detected well in time before the disease could take over and go to the next stage. He thanked almighty that he has been able to hold his place. Arun underwent a surgery which lasted 14 hours which involved the replacement of his jaw. In a conversation with The Hindu he said, “It’s a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time (in January) before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place. Obviously it is like a new life. It was tough but I am indebted to the fantastic job by the doctors. Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh, who had himself went through some tough times in the past with cancer called Arun enquiring about his health. He was quoted saying, “I know what it feels like because I have been through this. It’s nice if you can share someone’s pain and help him overcome it. I always try to understand the mindset of the patient because it mentally defeats you.” Navjot Singh Sidhu said, “I am looking forward to a stint with him.” Arun said he will come back behind the mike in two months time.
