The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has confirmed the nature of injuries to Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur who were replaced by Ravindra Jadeja and Siddarth Kaul in India’s ODI squad for the Super Four stage of the 2018 Asia Cup.
CricketCounty had earlier reported that Jadeja and Kaul were to fly to the UAE to join India’s ODI squad on account of injury concerns to Axar and Thakur, less than two hours after the BCCI confirmed that Hardik Pandya was to fly home and that Rajasthan seam bowler Deepak Chahar was his replacement.
A BCCI release Thursday clarified the injuries to Axar, Thakur and Pandya.
“Left-arm spinner Axar Patel injured his left index finger while fielding in the game against Pakistan. He was sent for scans and the results showed that he had a tendon tear. He will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. Ravindra Jadeja will replace Axar Patel in the squad,” read the release.
“Right-arm pacer Shardul Thakur experienced right hip and groin soreness after the game against Hong Kong. He will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. Siddharth Kaul will replace Shardul Thakur in the squad.
“All-rounder Hardik Pandya suffered an acute lower back spasm during the game against Pakistan and is undergoing treatment and assessment by the BCCI medical team. He will be unavailable for the remainder of the series. Deepak Chahar will replace Hardik Pandya in the squad.”
India next play Bangladesh on Friday in Dubai.
