New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Anurag Thakur on Monday said that the Asia Cup T20 tournament will be held in February, next year, before the ICC World T20 but the venue is yet to be finalised. “The Asia Cup will be held in mid-February, next year. However we have not decided the venue of the tournament. It could be Bangladesh or it could be India also. It will be decided in some time,” Thakur said on the sidelines of the selection committee meeting. Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were in the race to be the host nations for the tournament. Bangladesh have already hosted the tournament on the last two occasions and they look to get the honour of hosting the prestigious tournament for the third time in a row. “There are chances that the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh. But nothing is confirmed until an ACC (Asian Cricket Council) meeting takes a call on the issue. It is most likely that the next Asia Cup will be held in India. If not so, Bangladesh will probably be the host.” He said the matter would be settled in ACC’s next meeting. “If Bangladesh receives proposal, the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh,” according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan. “None of the Asian Test playing nations expressed interest in hosting the Asia Cup including India and Sri Lanka. So, the members decided the best possible option was UAE and a decision on the venue will be taken soon,” a well-placed source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told PTI.
