Chennai: With an unbeaten run so far in the cricket tri-series, Australia ‘A’ batsman Callum Ferguson today said they will be a confident lot going into tomorrow’s final. Australia ‘A’ have been a dominant side in the tri-series so far, recording comfortable wins against both hosts India ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’. In all probability, the Aussies will face India ‘A’ in tomorrow’s summit clash at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here. “We are getting into the final with lot of confidence. We manage to tick a lot of boxes in the first two games. We did well while batting first as well as chasing. Our bowlers too have done fantastic job throughout the series. “So far we have been really good. It does not matter what has happened so far, but what is going to happen tomorrow is important,” Ferguson added.
Ferguson backs in-form skipper Usman Khawaja to come good again in tomorrow’s final. “I expect Usman Khawaja to captain the team. Obviously, he has made a lot of runs over the last few weeks,” he said. READ: Australia A players to play tri-series final before leaving for England and Ireland ODI
He said playing under tough conditions here was a great learning experience for all the players. “It is obviously foreign conditions for lot of our guys. Like I said the other day, a lot of Australians have experienced that. But they are putting lot of time at the nets to get used to the conditions. We really enjoyed our time so far,” Ferguson concluded.
Meanwhile, former India batsman Sridharan Sriram, who is working as a consultant with the touring Australia ‘A’ team, said ‘winning culture’ is imbibed in the Australian players’ attitude. “I think I really don’t have to teach the Aussies on how to win. They have it in their culture. They always find a way to win as a team. But what we have essentially worked is on batting against spin,” Sriram said. “It’s all about conquering the piece of land in front of you as a batsman. We worked on alignment of body positions against different kinds of spin. Watching the rotations of the seam position when the ball is delivered. And once they are aware of that, their natural instincts takes over with a better position while facing spin,” Sriram added.
“It’s a culmination of lot of things. It’s about how body adjusts to different kinds of spinners,” he concluded.
