Australia have declared their innings at 572 for seven on Day Two of the fourth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was an innings where the Australian batsmen dominated. David Warner and Steven Smith went on to score centuries and put up important stands. The lower order also contributed with some quick runs at the end.
Australia’s top six managed to record fifty plus scores. Chris Rogers was unlucky to miss out on a ton as he was bowled for 95. Shane Watson scored 95. The opening stand between Warner and Rogers was worth 200. Watson and Smith put up a 196-run stand. Shaun Marsh and Joe Burns scored important fifties.
Towards the end, Australia were entertained with a quick cameo of 25 by Ryan Harris before Steven Smith called them back to the dressing room. India have the tough task of going after 572 although it is a good track. There is some turn in the surface though. Mohammed Shami was the best bowler for India, having taken five wickets.
Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a good looking wicket. The only change in their team was Mitchell Starc replacing Mitchell Johnson. India made four changes to their team. MS Dhoni’s retirement allowed Wriddhiman Saha to don the gloves. Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in place of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma. KL Rahul managed to hold on to his spot.
Brief scores:
Australia 572 for 7 decl. (Chris Rogers 95, David Warner 101, Steven Smith 117, Shane Watson 81; Shaun Marsh 73, Joe Burns 58; Mohammed Shami 5 for 111) vs India.
