After beating England in the first match of their home tri-series at Sydney, Australia will take on India at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia will go into the second ODI as favourites, but India after an outstanding 2014 in the ODI format can’t be written off.
Defending champions, India will hope to make the most of the tournament which will be closely followed by the ICC World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand. Virat Kohli, who brought in a rich flow of runs during the India-Australia Test series will shoulder a lot of expectations. But batsmen like Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni will also have to find form, if India are to challenge Australia.
Australia overwhelmed England in the first match of the series and won with a bonus point, which may come in handy later. In the absence of an injured Michael Clarke, it was George Bailey who rallied the troops and did a fine job out of it. David Warner was the star batsman for AUstralia in that match, while Mitchell Starc excelled with the ball.
Starc took four wickets for 42 runs in the match, leaving England with a total of 234 which was a cakewalk for Australia after Warner’s 115-ball 127. India, with its prowess in the limited overs formats is likely to pose a much bigger threat to the homeside.
