Sri Lanka have suffered another major injury setback with right-arm pacer Lahiru Kumara being ruled out of their ongoing Australia tour.
Lahiru didn’t take field in the final session on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia which concluded on Saturday. He underwent scans which revealed a tear to his right hamstring.
The tourists have already been suffering from injury issues with allrounder Angelo Mathews and pacer Nuwan Pradeep who picked an injury during a tour match at Hobart.
While a replacement hasn’t been announced yet, Sri Lanka already have a reserve pacer in their squad in Kasun Rajitha who has played three Tests so far.
Riding on Pat Cummins brutal spell as he finished with figures of 6/23, Australia crushed Sri Lanka by an innings and 40 runs at Gabba on Day 3.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 139 as they put up another poor show with the bat after being bowled out for 144 in their first dig.
Opener Lahiru Thirimanne offered some resistance eating away 98 deliveries to score 32 but was out in controversial fashion. None of the other batsmen crossed 25. The second and final Test will be played from February 1 at Manuka Oval in Canberra.
