Australia Woman came back strong in the tour as they defeated the visiting India Women by 101 runs in the first One-Day International (ODI) at Manuka Oval, Canberra. India Women had previously won the three-match Twenty-20 International (T20I) series 2-1 but Australia Women did really well in the third and last T20I and start the ODI series with a comfortable victory as Alex Blackwell and Ellyse Perry deliver remarkable performances. India Women looked quite helpless both with the bat and the ball as they first failed to restrict Australia within an achievable total and as they came out to bat, failed to get the needed runs. Winning the toss, Australia Women decided to bat first. Jhulan Goswami did her usual job as she removed opener Nicole Bolton for a solitary run. Meg Lanning had already started hitting biggies and elevated the runrate. Lanning departed for a 46-ball 43 and Alex Blackwell came in to join Ellyse Perry at the crease. The Australia Women looked unstoppable from then on. Perry and Blackwell reached their 50 in the same over and went on scoring. Blackwell got to her 100 off 102 balls. The partnership added 180 runs to the scoreboard. Blackwell was removed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad for 114 but the damage had been done by then. Harris made her ODI debut with the match and scored 2 runs while Perry got out for 90. With a couple of boundaries from Alyssa Healy, Australia put up 276 runs with the loss of 6 wickets after their 50 overs. Amongst India Women bowlers, Shikha Pandey remained the most successful as she took 3 for 32. Jhulan Goswami and Rajeshwari Gayakwad got a wicket each while the others remained wicketless.

India, from the start of their batting, did not look comfortable. Both the openers, Thirush Kamini and Poonam Raut, departed making 10 runs each. The highest partnership of India innings came from skipper Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur. The partnership added 42 runs. Raj got out for 23 but Kaur kept on batting and scored 42 runs with the help of five boundaries. After Kaur’s dismissal, India did not find any good performance except Jhulan Goswami who came in at No. 7 and scored 25 runs. Australia bundled out India with 175 runs on the board and 3.1 overs still remaining, achieving a 102-run victory.

Amongst the bowlers, it is Ellyse Perry who excelled once again. Perry took 4 for 45, bagging the crucial wickets of opener Raut, a set Kaur and a dangerous looking Goswami. Apart from Perry, Megan Schutt, Grace Harris and Jess Jonassen got a wicket each.
