Tamim Iqbal, Ex Bangladesh skipper, returned home on Friday after undergoing emergency surgery for a severe heart attack. The 36-year-old had collapsed during a match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on Monday, complaining of intense chest pain, and was rushed to hospital for life-saving stent surgery.
“After observing his health condition, we have decided to discharge him today. We hope he will be able to return to cricket soon,” Shahabuddin Talukder, a doctor at Evercare Hospital told reporters.
He also said that Tamim will need to undergo a rehabilitation program and make significant lifestyle changes to ensure a full recovery.
Bangladesh Health Minister Abu Zafar told reporters that it is uncertain whether Tamim will be able to return to cricket.
“Tamim won’t be able to play sports for the next three months. If everything goes well, then he will be able to return,” Abu Zafar said
“Unfortunately, he is a smoker, which is a risk factor for heart attacks. He must stay away from it. He will have to follow doctors’ advice.” Abu Zafar added
