Playing at Mirpur, Bangladesh inflicted a 79-run defeat on India in the first of the three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). It is, by a distance, their largest margin of victory over India in ODIs batting first. Only once had they beaten India batting first in an ODI — at Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka, on Boxing Day 2004. Mashrafe Mortaza, Bangladesh’s captain today, was named Man of the Match back then for his 31 not out and the wickets of Virender Sehwag and a young MS Dhoni. Their biggest margin of victory still remains 160 runs, when Bangladesh scored 292 for 6 at Khulna on December 2, 2012 and bowled West Indies out for 132.
