David Wiese starred with bat and ball as Khulna Titans defeated Sylhet Sixes during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2019 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The win against Sixers helped Titans to move themselves out of the bottom of the points table. Meanwhile, the loss had taken Sixers to the eighth spot in the table.
The decision to bowl first did not help Sixers as Brendan Taylor and Junaid Siddique set the tone of Titans’ innings, putting up a quickfire 73-run stand in 6.5 overs. Sixers though made their way back into the game after Mohammad Nawaz (2/26) and Alok Kapali (4/22), who had also dismissed the openers, ran through the Titans middle-order, reducing the Mahmudullah-led unit to 116/5 from 105/2.
However, Wiese kept the scoreboard moving with a 25-ball 38-run innings in which he hit two fours and as many sixes to guide Titans to 170.
Sixers did not really enjoy a solid start and were reduced to 56 for 4 by the end of nine overs. However, Nawaz (54 off 34 balls) and Nicholas Pooran joined hands and rekindled the hopes of Sixers fans with a 81-run stand. However, just when it looked that the Sohail Tanvir-led unit will cross the finish line, Wiese (1/24) put up his hand – this time with the ball – as he dismissed Pooran (28 off 21 balls) in the 18th over. Nawaz too fell in the 19th over as Titans went on to complete the formalities and seal a 21-run win.
