Sohail Tanvir was the star performer as Sylhet Sixers broken their three-match losing streak and outplayed Rajshahi Kings to secure a 76-run win in the 29th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2019 in Chattogram on Friday. This was Sixers’ third win of the season and it helped them move out of the bottom spot on the points table.
While Rajshahi Kings’ decision to bowl first paid some early dividends as Sixers had lost two wickets by the end of three overs, the 70-run stand between Jason Roy (42 off 28 balls) and Afif Hossain (28 off 29 balls) steadied Sixers. Although Alok Kapali (16 not out off 14 balls), Nicholas Pooran (19 off 18 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz (11 off 7 balls) chipped in with some runs, it was Tanvir’s 10-ball 23-run (not out) blitz powered Sixers 180.
While Mustafizur Rahman scalped two wickets, he was too expensive for Rajshahi Kings’ liking as he conceded 43 runs from his 4 overs. (ALSO READ: Bangladesh recall Sabbir Rahman, Taskin Ahmed for New Zealand series)
Rajshahi Kings’ run-chase never really took off even as Fazle Mahmud (50 off 41 balls) tried to hold the innings together. Their openers – Laurie Evans and Mominul Haque – could only score as many as 6 runs between themselves and their middle and lower middle-order – Ryan ten Doeschate, Zakir Hasan, Christiaan Jonker, Seekkuge Prasanna and captain Mehidy Hasan amongst others– failed to deliver as Tanvir (3/17), Taskin Ahmed 2/20), Nawaz (3/22) and Kapali (2/15) blew away Rajshahi Kings and handed them their fifth defeat of the season.
