Bangladesh make it back to the Champions Trophy for the first time since 2006, replacing West Indies as International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the top eight teams that would play the tournament set to be played in England in 2017. September 30 was given as the cut-off date for determining the rankings. Bangladesh finished at No.7, ahead of Pakistan at No.8 and West Indies at No.9. Teams that have qualified for the tournament are World Champions Australia, title holders India, 1998 winner South Africa, champions of 2000 New Zealand, co-winners Sri Lanka, hosts England and Asian giants Pakistan. They made it to the knockout stages of the of a World Cup for the very first time in their history and this was followed up by series wins against South Africa and India—both at home, according to icc-cricket.com
The Champions Trophy 2017 will be a 15-match tournament, with teams split into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group progressing to the semi-finals. With the sides for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 now confirmed, the next important qualification date in the diaries of the 12 teams on the ICC ODI Team Rankings will be September 30, 2017.
