Mehidy Hasan to Afsar Zazai. SIX, SIX! Well, Afsar is not thinking about Stumps or anything as he whacks this one over the fence. Flighted ball around off, Zazai comes down the track and drags this off side length ball to smoke this over the mid-wicket fence. The six brings up the 50-run stand between the two. Another solid and timely stand after a couple of quick wickets.

  • 4:57 PM IST

Mehidy Hasan to Asghar Afghan. SIX, SIX! Humongous! No half measures there from Afghan. Fuller ball on middle, Afghan skips down the track and slams this over the long on fielder to get another six.

  • 4:57 PM IST

DRINKS! Bangladesh have been on top of the first half of the final session. They managed to break Rahmat and Afghan’s stand after the former got Afghanistan’s maiden ton. Nayeem Hasan’s double wicket over has put his side on top again. Afghanistan are once again looking to rebuild here. The good thing for them is that the experienced, Asghar Afghan is still out in the middle and is looking strong.

  • 4:57 PM IST

Nayeem Hasan to Asghar Afghan. FOUR, FOUR! Good use of the feet from Asghar. It is a full delivery outside off, Asghar comes down the track and lofts it over the mid off fielder for a boundary.

  • 4:57 PM IST

    200 runs for AFG

  • 4:57 PM IST

Oh no! Once again there is movement around the boundary as the groundstaff are getting ready with the covers. It is starting to drizzle here and the wind is strong too.

  • 4:56 PM IST

Mehidy Hasan to Asghar Afghan. 1 run, FIFTY! Second Fifty for Asghar in Tests. Mehidy bowls a full delivery on the pads of Asghar who flicks it to square leg and takes a single to get to his milestone. It has been a good innings so far from him and has to continue the good work as the visitors have just lost two quick wickets. He did look fidgety at the start of the innings but has looked comfortable since then.

  • 4:56 PM IST

Nayeem Hasan to Mohammad Nabi. out, OUT! Bowled! Nabi walks back without troubling the scorers. This one spins and keeps low as well. It is pitched on off and middle, Nabi gets on his back foot and looks to punch it on the off side. The ball though keeps low and goes under his bat to disturb the off pole. Second wicket of the over and this has been a dream start to the new session for the hosts. Afghanistan getting pushed back again here.

  • 4:56 PM IST

Nayeem Hasan to Rahmat Shah. out, OUT! Caught! Hundred and out! Rahmat will be kicking himself. He was looking so good out in the middle but maybe the milestone has brought in a lapse of concentration here. Slower through the air closer to off pole. Rahmat goes for a big drive but the ball kisses the outside edge of his bat and goes low to first slip. Soumya Sarkar there shows good reflexes and takes a very good catch. End of a brilliant knock from the Afghani batter though. He will get a lot of praise for this and rightfully so.

  • 4:56 PM IST

TEA! 114 runs, no wickets. This should tell you which side goes into Tea with an upper hand. Rahmat Shah and Asghar Afghan have looked rock solid in their defense and have not missed out on putting the bad balls away. As far as the Bangladeshi spinners are concerned, they have hardly got any purchase from the surface. One can say that they have been a bit wayward as well but the Afghani duo in their 114-run stand have not given much of a sniff to them. Afghan also survived a LBW call with the help of DRS.

  • 4:56 PM IST

Taijul Islam to Asghar Afghan. no run, That would have been anti-climatic and disastrous for Afghanistan. Flighted around off, Afghan comes down the track and defends it towards cover. Rahmat comes down for a single, Afghan initially says yes but then turns his back as he is kind of ball watching there. Shah is almost half way down, Shakib gets to the ball quickly and has a shy at the bowler’s end. Unfortunately for Bangladesh, the skipper misses his shy at the stumps. Replay shows had Shakib scored a direct hit, Rahmat would have been on his way back to the pavillion before getting his century.

  • 4:56 PM IST

Mehidy Hasan to Asghar Afghan. no run, NOT OUT! A good review from Afghanistan. It is a loopy delivery on middle spinning into the batsman, Asghar comes down the track to flick but gets hit on the pads. Mehidy appeals and the umpire gives it out. Asghar after consulting the non striker goes for a review and he is proved right. The replays roll in and the Ball Tracker shows that the ball is going on to miss the leg stump.

  • 4:55 PM IST

Just in case you are wondering, yes the Tea has been extended. There was a rain delay and hence the extension

  • 4:55 PM IST

    100 runs for Rahmat Shah

  • 4:55 PM IST

Taijul Islam to Rahmat Shah. 1 run, Full delivery on off, Rahmat pushes this to mid off and takes a single.

  • 1:49 PM IST

Taijul Islam to Rahmat Shah. FOUR, FOUR! Excellent shot! Short around off, it is not very short but Rahmat is standing deep in his crease making it look shorter. He gets on his back foot and cuts it past the diving point fielder for a boundary. This pair has been on top of bad balls and that has been the feature of this partnership.

  • 1:49 PM IST

Soumya Sarkar to Rahmat Shah. FOUR, FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries for Afghanistan. Poor bowling from Soumya. It is bowled on the pads of Rahmat who flicks it on its way to the fine leg fence.

  • 1:49 PM IST

Soumya Sarkar to Rahmat Shah. FOUR, FOUR! Well played from Rahmat. It is short and outside off, Rahmat just cuts it nicely past the point fielder for a boundary. The fielder at deep point tries to make a diving stop but fails to stop it.

  • 1:49 PM IST

Soumya Sarkar to Asghar Afghan. SIX, SIX! Gets this one right does Asghar! He tried the same shot in the previous over of Soumya but had missed out but not this time. It is a good length delivery on middle, Asghar lofts this over the mid-wicket region for a maximum.

  • 1:48 PM IST

The only non spinning bowling option is into the attack. Soumya Sarkar to bowl!

  • 1:48 PM IST

Taijul Islam to Asghar Afghan. no run, Almost a calamity there. Floated on the pads, Afghan flicks it to the left of deep mid-wicket and comes out for a single. Rahmat sends him back and rightfully so as it was never there. The fielder gets to the ball quickly and releases it at the keeper’s end but luckily for Afghanistan, Asghar was back in.

  • 1:48 PM IST

Mehidy Hasan to Rahmat Shah. 1 run, FIFTY FOR RAHMAT SHAH! His third in Test and this has been another fine knock from him. His side needed him to stabilize the innings and he has done just that. Short around off, Rahmat pushes it to cover to get to his milestone. He raises his bat in appreciation as his teammates applaud the knock he has played. The job is only half done here and now he will look to convert this into a big one.

  • 12:05 PM IST

LUNCH! Bangladesh will be the side heading into the break with their heads held high. They have done brilliantly to peg the visitors back. In a side where all the front line bowlers are spinners, without any surprise all wickets have fallen to the spinners. Taijul Islam has been the pick of the bowlers in the morning session, picking up two wickets and in the process becoming the second highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Tests. Mahmudullah was the other bowler to get into the wickets column.

  • 12:05 PM IST
Mahmudullah to Hashmatullah Shahidi. out, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! The bowling change works wonders. Mahmudullah, out of all the spinners Bangladesh have, is the one to get the breakthrough. A sharp catch there by the slip fielder. Not easy when it goes that quickly. Mahmudullah bowls this flatter and shorter outside off. Shahidi looks to play it late but the ball skids through, flies off the outside edge and Sarkar at first slip takes it nicely. The Bangladesh players are ecstatic. Shahidi walks back without making an impact. The other players follow him too as IT IS LUNCH ON DAY 1!
  • 11:06 AM IST

Taijul Islam to Hashmatullah Shahidi. no ball, FOUR, FOUR NO BALL! What was that? The ball didn’t come out the bowler’s hand well as it lobs shoulder high for Shahidi. He shuffles and powers this towards the fine leg fence. That slipped out of his hands clearly. Shahidi is off the mark with that boundary.

  • 11:06 AM IST
Taijul Islam to Ibrahim Zadran. out, OUT! Zadran has thrown his wicket away. He was looking solid in defense but wonder if the six from Rahmat excited him and he thought to get one for himself as well. Flighted ball on middle, skips down the track and looks to power this one over the long off fielder. He does so but without timing as it goes high in the air. Mahmudullah, the long off fielder runs to his left to pouch this one nicely. Wicket number two for Taijul.

LIVE SCORE: Bangladesh vs Afghanistan: One-off Test, Day 1: Asghar Afghan closing in on maiden Test hundred

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Day 1 of the one-off Test between Bangladesh and Afghanistan at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium,Chattogram on Thursday.

Afghanistan’s spin prodigy Rashid Khan faces a tough challenge as he captains his side for the first time against Bangladesh in only his war-torn country’s third Test starting Thursday.

Afghanistan obtained Test status in 2017. In their first outing in June 2018 India thrashed them inside two days, but in the second in March they beat fellow newcomers Ireland by seven wickets.

Leg-spinner Rashid was named skipper for all three formats after their dire World Cup campaign in England and Wales when they lost all nine matches and were dogged by several controversies.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) star will become the youngest ever Test captain at the age of 20 years 350 days when he steps out in the Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
