Dhaka Dynamites started their Bangladesh Premier League 2016 (BPL) campaign on a winning note coming out victorious against Barisal Bulls in Match No.2 of the tournament. Both teams clashed at the Shere Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur, Dhaka where match No.1 also took place. Riding on the a 88-run stand between Kumar Sangakkara and Mehedi Maruf, Dynamites gained an easy 8-wicket win. Maruf had good partnership with Shakib Al Hasan as well, adding 48 runs for the second wicket. Maruf remained unbeaten on 75 off 45 deliveries, hitting as many 5 fours and as many sixes. Maruf continued carried to bat in accordance with Shakib, who was looking set and rearing to go. Both the players ensured that the flow of runs did not stop, hitting one boundary per over. Shakib gave his all, ended up making 20 from 23 balls. Shakib trying to win the match for his side, missed the ball completely only for it to rock his stumps.

Maruf in the meanwhile kept the flow of runs coming, notching up his first BPL 2016 half-century in 30 balls. Shakib Al Hasan came into the bat at No.3 partnering Maruf. Sangakkara and Maruf added 88 runs for the first wicket before Taijul Islam struck in his first over. Taijul fresh from playing a Test against England, got the key wicket of Sangakkara who fell victim to the pitch than the bowlers skill. The ball kept low and struck Sangakkara on the pads.

Sangakkara did not even spare his country man Thisera Perera slamming him for two boundaries. First boundary came off a full-toss honked over leg side. Sangakkara survived after being dropped on the next ball. Masuf came in between and got a four for himself over fine leg. Sangakkara finished Perera’s over with a four straight down the pitch.

Both Sangakkara and Maruf continued scoring runs at quick pace. Maruf and Sangakkara in particular went into destruction mode hitting Mahedi Hasan for four boundaries in his first over. Sangakkara first boundary came over the cover region followed by boundary thanks to his pads. Soon Maruf came into his own cracking a glorious boundary inside-out. Maruf went sweeper cover fielder on the very next ball.

Maruf continued to like Maruf’s bowling, hitting him a six over cow corner. Sangakkara could be far behind hit himself a boundary on the second delivery as well, this time off Monir Hossain. Maruf latched into Al Amin Hossain cracking a six in only his second delivery. Sangakkara and Maruf came out to bat for Dynamites chasing a target of 149 runs.

Earlier, Dynamites won the toss and skipper Shakib elected to field first. Impressive batting by Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahriar Nafees. enabled Bulls to reach a 148 runs against a on the mark bowling attack of Dynamites. Rahim remained not-out on 50 while Nafees provided the earlier impetus making 34-ball 55. Mohammad Shahid was the star bowler for Dynamites picking 3 for 21 in his 4 overs. Dwayne Bravo was economical in his 4 over picking 2 for 26.
