The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that the Indian cricket team would be awarded Rs 2 crore following their 3-0 series win over South Africa, the world’s No. 1 ranked Test side. India could have sealed the series 4-0 too had the second Test at Bengaluru not ended in a draw following a washed out Test. India won the first Test at Mohali, the third Test at Nagpur, and the fourth and final Test at Nagpur. The Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja ran through the Proteas throughout the series, with Ashwin ending with 31 wickets in the four Tests and Jadeja taking 23 scalps. They were supported well by Amit Mishra and Umesh Yadav, while Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron too played their parts. Full Cricket Scorecard: India vs South Africa 2015 4th Test at Delhi
As reported by AFP, Virat Kohli said after the series, “Captaincy fits me perfectly. I relish making plans as a captain: when they come off, it’s a wonderful feeling. And the icing on the cake has been beating the number one Test side 3-0. I was surprised by their (batting) approach but I was impressed by the way they applied themselves…(But) at no stage did our bowlers panic… I am more than happy that we came out with flying colours in the end.” READ: India vs South Africa 2015, Test series: Marks out of 10 for the hosts
Kohli’s South African counterpart Hashim Amla said, “As a captain you want to lead from the front by scoring runs. Not being able to do that is certainly disappointing. We failed to click as a batting unit…Nobody wants to block like that. But it was the need of the hour to take risky shots out of the equation. It’s really tough and unnatural for a batsman to play like that.” READ: India vs South Africa 2015 Test series: Marks out of 10 for Proteas
