The Committee of Administrators (CoA), which runs the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has announced the list of central contracts of the players, their retainer fees and match fee amounts. As expected, No. 1 ranked bowler Ravindra Jadeja is now part of Grade A along with MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay. However, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh have not been handed a contract by the BCCI. Jadeja, who has had a magnificent home season, went past Ashwin to become the No. 1 bowler in the ICC Test rankings. The annual retainer amount for Grade A players is INR 2 crores. The likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav, Wriddhiman Saha, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuvraj Singh have been handed out Grade B contracts. The retainer amount for these players will be INR 1 crore. Grade C features the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Hardik Pandya, Ashish Nehra and Kedar Jadhav. Dhawan, earlier part of Grade A, has been demoted to C after a combination of poor form and injuries. Yuzvendra Chahal, Parthiv Patel, Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant too have been handed a Grade C contract.
The players have also received a major salary hike – twice as it was last year. With effective from October 1, 2016, players will be paid INR 15 lakhs per Test, 6 lakhs for every One-Day International (ODI) and Rs. 3 Lakhs for T20 International (T20I). According to the BCCI media release, “Sandhya Rajesh Sawant, wife of Late Rajesh Sawant who unfortunately passed away while he was on official assignment with the India Under 19 team, was handed a cheque of Rs 15 lakhs, in recognition of his services to Indian Cricket.”
