Tami Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2016 is into its semi-final stage and Dindigul Dragons who have played some excellent cricket to reach the all-important stage, have now suffered a huge setback. India’s No.1 off-spin bowler and the captain of the Dindigul Dragons, Ravichandran Ashwin, will not be playing in the semi-final against Tuti Patriots on Friday, September 16. India‘s Test series against New Zealand is round the corner, and it has been learnt that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not given Ashwin a clearance to play in the TNPL semi-final. According to a TOI source, “Dindigul management thought Ashwin would be available for the match as the national camp was scheduled from September 17. They were awaiting confirmation and clearance from BCCI. However, it didn’t happen.”
Ashwin has played in two matches for his team in the TNPL and he also featured in one of them the same day he landed from USA, after India competed against West Indies in two T20Is. Ashwin’s absence comes as a huge blow for the Dragons. On the contrary, Dinesh Karthik, will be joining the Tuti Patriots squad, after he went to play in the Duleep Trophy 2016-17 for India Blue, in Greater Noida. Karthik played in one game for Tuti Patriots, when he scored an unbeaten 67. READ: Kohli, Ashwin, Rahul lauded by Kumble ahead of New Zealand Test series
While Abhinav Mukund too has joined the Tuti Patriots squad, it is still still not sure if he will open the innings or even feature, as there hasn’t been any update on the injury he sustained on the last day of the Duleep Trophy final.
